Bio

Jaime Jesús Garratón (b. 1980, Puerto Rico) is a Puerto Rican visual artist whose multidisciplinary practice encompasses painting, drawing, photography, digital media, and installation. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts Communications from the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón after receiving an academic scholarship in Art and Athletics from Roger Williams University in Rhode Island.

Early in his career, Garratón collaborated on special projects with the advertising agencies J. Walter Thompson and McCann Erickson. Since 2010 he has worked as Studio Assistant to the renowned Puerto Rican photographer and artist Héctor Méndez Caratini, contributing to numerous exhibitions, publications, and research projects.

His recent work investigates the relationship between gravity, perception, and the physiology of vision through a process he calls Drip Up Painting, in which conventional gravity is visually inverted to generate ascending fields of pigment that encourage viewers to discover emergent imagery through prolonged observation.

Garratón has exhibited in museums and galleries throughout Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, and his work explores the intersection of abstraction, optical perception, material experimentation, and contemporary painting.
